I find myself taking pictures of windows, doors, things I look through, things that reflect back at me.
I was at a DLWS on San Juan Island, Washington in September, 2008. The harbor setting was beautiful in the early morning light but it was this window scene facing the water which drew me in. I set up my tripod and started shooting.
This photograph reminds me of coming home after playing outside in the fall/winter as it was getting just dark enough so that the house was lit inside. It takes me back to that warm, cozy, safe feeling of my childhood.
The quote in the title is credited to the photographer Elizabeth Opalenik: “In one sense all photographs are self-portraits…in that they tell us something about the photographer’s eye – his or her way of framing the world”…
